Haitian Prime Minister visits canal diverting Massacre River water
Juana Méndez.- Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille visited the illegally constructed canal on the Massacre River this Friday, which was built by civilians to redirect water into Haiti.
“I am here today to see, listen, and understand,” said Prime Minister Conille during his visit to the canal in Juana Méndez, where he met with various local figures.
It is currently unclear whether the Prime Minister will support the expansion of the Haitian canal or what agreements he may have reached with the project’s committee. Conille is on a tour addressing issues such as insecurity and other national problems in the North and Northeast regions of Haiti, according to local media.
In response to the canal’s construction, President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic has urged Haiti to abandon the diversion project, advocating for the application of the 1929 treaty, which outlines the resolution of conflicts over transboundary waters. Legislators from various political parties have also opposed the project, which seeks to divert Dominican water resources to Haiti.
illegally constructed ? so if your country agrees to an external treaty with other sorrounding countries, you would abide by it?. Does the dominican republic abide by its external treaties or just the ones that suit their best interests internally? hypocrites
