Dominican Republic and Ecuador begin negotiations for Partial Scope Trade Agreement

New York.- During the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic and President Daniel Noboa of Ecuador held a bilateral meeting to initiate negotiations for a Partial Scope Trade Agreement. This agreement aims to boost trade, investments, and economic ties between both nations.

The discussions build on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in November 2020, which established a Joint Working Group to promote trade exchanges and productive collaborations. Additionally, a second MOU was signed in November 2023 to officially launch negotiations for the trade agreement.

The agreement, grounded in national laws and bilateral economic complementarity, aims to protect sensitive products and sectors while facilitating trade. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to furthering commercial integration, which will benefit their nations, under the Alliance for Development in Democracy (ADD).
