UN extends Multinational Security Mission in Haiti until 2025

Haiti.- The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti until October 2, 2025, in response to the ongoing violence, criminal activity, and large-scale displacement of the Haitian population.

The Council commended Kenya’s leadership of the mission, which was deployed following requests from the UN Secretary-General and the Haitian Government, with support from various member states providing financial contributions. It emphasized the importance of a Haitian-led political process to ensure free and fair legislative and presidential elections, while underscoring the MSSM’s role in establishing a secure environment for these elections.

The Security Council urged the mission to expedite its deployment and called on member states to increase voluntary contributions. It reaffirmed that the situation in Haiti poses a threat to international peace and security and committed to closely monitoring developments and receiving regular updates on the mission’s progress.
