Dominican Republic shifts Santo Domingo Train project to public-private partnership

Santo Domingo.- The Trust for the Development of the Mass Transportation System of the Dominican Republic (FITRAM) has announced the cancellation of the bidding process for the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train project. The government plans to pursue the project through a public-private partnership (PPP), a move aimed at optimizing resources and attracting investment from interested parties. FITRAM will soon launch a “roadshow” to engage potential investors and assess the best mechanisms to move forward with the initiative, which is a priority for improving the city’s mobility.

The Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train is a key component of the city’s Integrated Transportation System (SIT). Its first phase will link Las Americas International Airport to the Olympic Center, connecting with the Santo Domingo Metro’s Lines 1 and 2, expanding the system’s reach to over 500,000 new users. The train will provide crucial connections between various neighborhoods in Santo Domingo Este and the National District, benefiting nearly one million residents across the metropolitan area.
