Faride addresses undocumented immigrants in motorcycle taxi sector
Santo Domingo.- During President Luis Abinader’s weekly press conference, La Semanal, concerns were raised about the growing number of undocumented Haitian motorcycle taxi drivers and their presence in transportation routes. A journalist highlighted that many operate with expired work permits or no identification, affecting approximately 30% of the sector.
Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful responded by explaining ongoing efforts to address the issue. She noted that the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII) is developing a nationwide motorcycle registry to track ownership and ensure compliance. Additionally, the General Directorate of Migration is conducting operations to identify and deport individuals residing in the country illegally.
Raful emphasized the government’s commitment to systematic coordination between relevant agencies to regulate transportation services and enforce immigration laws, ensuring a more controlled and lawful environment.
