Dominican Republic to host 2026 International Anti-Corruption Conference
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been selected to host the 2026 International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), which will bring together over 2,000 participants from around 160 countries. This announcement was made during a press conference in Santo Domingo, where President Luis Abinader was present. Roberto Pérez Rocha, director of the IACC Series and representative of Transparency International, revealed that the decision to hold the conference in the Dominican Republic was unanimous. The event will provide a platform for discussions on global anti-corruption efforts, with a particular focus on the country’s notable progress in this area.
In the past four years, the Dominican Republic has made significant strides in combating corruption, improving its ranking on the Corruption Perception Index compared to other Latin American nations. Pérez Rocha highlighted key reforms, including the establishment of an independent Public Prosecutor’s Office, the creation of the Anti-Fraud Unit within the Comptroller General’s Office, and the launch of the Asset Recovery Program. Furthermore, improvements in the National Public Procurement System have reinforced transparency in government purchasing processes.
President Abinader expressed pride and responsibility upon receiving the official notification of the country’s selection. He emphasized that this recognition underscores the country’s ongoing commitment to transparency and the fight against corruption. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to further advancing these efforts and reducing impunity, ensuring that the Dominican Republic continues to make progress in these critical areas.
