Santo Domingo.- The National Aquarium is set to reopen on Friday, December 20, following the completion of the first phase of its renovation. President Luis Abinader will officially inaugurate the revamped maritime park on Thursday, December 19. The renovation includes infrastructure upgrades, a modernized ticketing system with online purchasing, and updated admission rates. Tickets now cost RD$150 for adults and RD$100 for local children, while prices for foreign visitors remain at RD$300 for adults and RD$250 for children.
Visitors can look forward to renovated habitats, new marine species, and redesigned themed rooms with vibrant decorations aimed at engaging children. However, the SPAW Protocol Children’s Theme Park, under renovation since 2023, is not yet complete, with no announced opening date.
The Aquarium has been closed since 2023 amid allegations of administrative irregularities under former director Wanda García, who was dismissed in January 2024 following an investigative report by Nuria Investiga. The renovation project has since been overseen by interim director Jimmy Constantino García Saviñón, marking a fresh start for the institution.
