Santo Domingo.- Haitian organizations in the Dominican Republic have announced a work stoppage for Wednesday, coinciding with International Migrants Day, to highlight the Haitian community’s contributions to the Dominican economy and society while denouncing alleged human rights violations by the government.

The protest, titled A Day Without Migrants, calls for unity in defense of dignity and human rights. Organizers demand an end to “massive, summary, and collective” deportations, the facilitation of immigration regularization, payment of pensions owed to retired sugarcane workers, and the enforcement of equal pay. They also advocate for workers’ freedom of association and the elimination of hate speech by authorities, emphasizing the vital role of Haitian immigrants in the national economy.

The strike is organized by several groups, including the #HaitianosRD Collective, the Dominican-Haitian Women’s Movement (Mudha), and the Recognized Movement, among others.
