San Pedro de Macorís celebrates the reopening of its remodeled boardwalk

San Pedro de Macorís, DR.- The residents of San Pedro de Macorís gathered in celebration over the weekend to enjoy their newly remodeled boardwalk, officially reopened on Saturday by President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado. The festive atmosphere drew hundreds of visitors who marveled at the transformation and relished artistic performances under the night sky. Locals expressed their gratitude for the long-awaited renovation, which had been a community demand for decades.

The revamped boardwalk, rebuilt at a cost of over RD$290 million, spans 1.84 kilometers along the coastal shoreline. It features a linear park covering 60,000 square meters, including 12,000 square meters of sidewalks. Key highlights include two expansive recreational areas, a business zone with nine double sales modules, a plaza showcasing folkloric figures from the UNESCO-recognized “Guloyas” tradition, and enhanced facilities such as bathrooms, security booths, and a photo booth.

The project, executed by the Executive Committee of Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), also boasts landscaped spaces, a children’s play area, an outdoor gym, universal access ramps, and modern lighting. Residents see the boardwalk as a vibrant space for family, cultural events, and community pride, further enriched by its potential as a tourism and economic hub.
