TV producer to stand trial on forgery, slander of First Lady

Santiago.- A Santiago court on Wednesday ordered TV commentator Marcos Martínez to stand criminal trial, on charges of forging documents filed by vice president Margarita Cedeño.

The 3rd Instruction Court ruled for Cedeño, who as first lady, charged Martinez with forgery, after he showed a document during a television program purportedly showing that she had 43 million euros in an account with a Danish bank.

The case was sent to the criminal court, which must know determine the date and where the first hearing will take place.

After the hearing, Martínez said he’s not afraid of the power and will continue his struggle. He said that if he’s convicted there’ll be no freedom of expression in the country.
