Ex-L.A. Dodgers slugger banned from travel on corruption probe

Santo Domingo.- Controller general Rafael Germosén revealed Sunday that San Cristobal mayor and former L.A. Dodgers slugger Raúl Mondesí has been banned from traveling, on allegations of the “undisciplined” manner with which he has managed taxpayers’ money.

He said the ban was placed after evidence of misfeasance found during raids of the offices of Mondesí and of several other mayors by the Justice Ministry’s Anticorruption Unit.

Interviewed on the D’ Agenda program, the official said the measure was taken after technicians from his agency reviewed the documents from San Cristobal’s City Council, but Mondesí denies wrongdoing.

Germosén also accused San Cristobal officials of denying his auditors a place to conduct the review, and requests for additional documents. "When this occurs, we deny authorization to mayors who want to travel abroad, and in that regard, we’ve refused such permits to several municipal officials, San Cristobal mayor Raúl Mondesí among them."
