Authorities dismiss LPG shortage in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- A-Gas executive director Guillermo Cochón clarified that there has never been a shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the Dominican Republic. He explained that Coastal Petroleum Dominicana did not suspend shipments, but a weather-related delay reduced deliveries temporarily. Despite this, all gas stations remain fully operational.

Minister of Industry and Commerce Víctor Bisonó and Refidomsa president Leonardo Aguilera assured that the country has sufficient LPG reserves. Bisonó noted that while fuel rationing was briefly implemented due to delayed shipments, it was not a true shortage. Currently, over 400,000 tons of gas are in storage, ensuring stable supply for the population.

Authorities also dismissed rumors of financial issues at Refidomsa, confirming that employee payments are being made without problems. Additionally, six more ships carrying 75 million gallons of LPG are expected by February 24, reinforcing the country’s fuel reserves.

A shortage is a shortage no matter how the officials want to dance words to play it down. There always should be a sufficient reserve of gas available when there are “weather” delays. Suspect there is another element left out as a reason for the delays.

“all gas stations remain fully operational.” Tell that to all the people who went to gas stations and found no gas available.
