Dominican Embassy in Japan celebrates 181st Independence Anniversary

Japan.- The Dominican Republic’s Embassy in Japan celebrated the 181st anniversary of National Independence with a reception at The Okura Hotel in Tokyo, attended by over 150 guests, including government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Dominican community. The event highlighted the nation’s economic growth and strong bilateral relations with Japan.

Ambassador Robert Takata emphasized the Dominican Republic’s steady economic expansion, averaging 5-6% in recent decades, with similar projections for 2025. He also noted a 94% increase in Dominican exports to Japan in 2024, particularly in medical instruments and cocoa. Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arfiya Eri, praised the longstanding ties between both nations and acknowledged Ambassador Takata’s contributions as the first Nikkei-Dominican diplomat in Japan.

The ceremony featured a toast, a live musical performance, and Dominican cuisine, reinforcing cultural ties. The Embassy reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly within the framework of the “Japan-SICA Year of Friendship 2025.”
