Santo Domingo.- Eddy Alcántara, executive director of Pro Consumidor, announced measures to regulate rice prices amid recent market fluctuations. The agency has intensified inspections in major factories, warehouses, and points of sale to prevent unjustified price increases and protect consumers.
Alcántara confirmed that inspectors have been deployed to key provinces where the largest rice factories operate, ensuring compliance with the price set by the National Rice Commission under the Ministry of Agriculture. He emphasized that President Luis Abinader closely monitors essential goods to prevent negative impacts on vulnerable families.
The announcement followed a price committee meeting led by Abinader, where strategies were discussed to clarify and stabilize rice costs. Alcántara addressed the media after a floral tribute at the Altar de la Patria in honor of National Independence.
