Army detains over 16,000 undocumented Haitians in May

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Army reported that 16,501 undocumented Haitians were detained and handed over to Immigration authorities during the month of May for repatriation procedures. These arrests took place as part of daily operations conducted across various provinces.

Among the provinces with the highest numbers of detentions were Dajabón (3,071), San Juan de la Maguana (2,710), Elías Piña (2,133), and Independencia (2,017). Smaller numbers were also reported in areas such as Azua, Montecristi, Pedernales, Puerto Plata, and others.

In addition, 55 individuals were referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges related to human trafficking. These arrests occurred in provinces including Azua, Dajabón, Elías Piña, La Vega, and San Juan de la Maguana.

Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, the Army’s commander-in-chief, reaffirmed that anyone involved in facilitating illegal migration will face justice through the appropriate legal channels.
