Dominican Municipal League backs amendment to solid waste law
Santo Domingo.- Víctor D’Aza, president of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), welcomed the approval in second reading of a bill amending Law 225-20 on the Comprehensive Management and Co-processing of Solid Waste, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening local waste management.
D’Aza emphasized that the reform addresses a critical need for municipalities to access additional funding to enhance cleaning and waste collection services. Under the new provisions, starting in 2026, a special contribution of RD$20 per inhabitant will be allocated through the DO Sustainable Trust. These funds will be exclusively used for waste collection, and the purchase of related equipment and machinery.
