Dominican Republic and Russia launch joint stamp issue to mark 80 years of diplomatic relations
Santo Domingo.- In celebration of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Dominican Republic and the Russian Federation, the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM), alongside the Official Philatelic Commission, Russian Post (Pochta Rossii), and the Russian Embassy, officially launched a joint postal issue. The symbolic release honors the deepening cultural, historical, and institutional bonds between the two nations.
The ceremony took place at INPOSDOM headquarters in Santo Domingo and simultaneously at the Dominican Embassy in Moscow, highlighting the binational and diplomatic significance of the initiative. INPOSDOM Director Erick Guzmán and Russian Ambassador Alexey Seredin emphasized the role of philately in cultural diplomacy and mutual understanding, celebrating eight decades of cooperation and friendship.
The joint stamp issue features two emblematic cultural figures: the Dominican muñeca sin rostro (faceless doll), representing mestizaje and feminine identity, and a traditional Russian nesting doll from the Kursk region, rooted in Slavic heritage. The release includes 15,000 stamps in two designs (RD$100 and RD$75), printed on moisture-resistant paper with artwork by Mario Emilio Adams and Ekaterina Vladislavovna Chernook. The initiative was authorized by Presidential Decree No. 37-25 and is part of the 2025 National Philatelic Plan.
