Public Ministry seizes over 3,800 counterfeit school supplies in foreign-owned stores

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Public Ministry raided a business on Duarte Avenue in the National District on Tuesday, seizing over 3,800 counterfeit school supplies as part of an investigation into violations of Industrial Property Law No. 20-00.

The operation, led by Prosecutor Bony Esther Suriel and Inspector Lauridelissa Jiménez, focused on a store operated by foreign merchants. Authorities confiscated 1,275 backpacks, 1,275 lunchboxes, and 1,275 pencil cases featuring unauthorized logos of a well-known brand.

Attorney Jonathan Baró Gutiérrez, head of the Intellectual Property Unit, emphasized that counterfeit products deceive consumers and violate their right to accurate information. He explained that using registered brand logos without permission undermines both brand integrity and fair competition.

The Public Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding intellectual property rights and promoting fair commercial practices through continued enforcement actions.
