Santo Domingo celebrates 527 years

Santo Domingo.- Marking the 527th anniversary of Santo Domingo’s founding, the Colonial City Revitalization Program is celebrating the city’s rich historical legacy under the slogan “Where it all began.” As the first city in the New World, Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone remains a vibrant symbol of history and renewal.

In a social media post, the program invited residents and visitors to rediscover the heart of the city, where every street, square, and monument reflects centuries of living history. The revitalization effort has breathed new life into key landmarks, including the Ozama Fortress, Las Mercedes Street, and Duarte Park.

The message encourages the public to walk through these restored spaces and connect with the city’s roots: “Come, live, and relive where it all began.” The invitation celebrates Santo Domingo as a city where historical wealth and renewed energy coexist.
