Hurricane Erin advances: Authorities warn of rain and dangerous waves

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), in conjunction with the Emergency Operations Center (COE), held a press conference this Saturday to report on the effects of Hurricane Erin, which continues to strengthen in the Atlantic and maintains an indirect impact on the Dominican Republic.

According to the organizations, the phenomenon has found a favorable environment for its development, which has allowed it to achieve greater organization and intensity.

Rainfall and Accumulations

Indomet indicated that rainfall projections range between 75 and 100 millimeters, although they could exceed these values in isolated areas. These rains would primarily affect the north and northeast of the country, while other areas could receive additional accumulations as the system develops.

Waves and surges
Authorities warned that waves will continue to be dangerous along the entire Atlantic coast, with waves reaching 10 to 12 feet in height. In low-lying coastal areas. In addition to abnormal waves, storm surges are expected, increasing the risk level for coastal communities.

Winds associated with the system
Although the center of the hurricane remains between 380 and 400 kilometers from the Dominican Republic, wind gusts of between 30 and 62 km/h are expected, mainly in parts of the Atlantic coast. These conditions could intensify tomorrow in parts of the east and southeast of the country.
