Puerto Plata.- A catamaran caught fire on Monday in Gracia Bay, Luperón, Puerto Plata. The vessel, owned by Santiago businessman Fernando Capellán, was engulfed in flames near the Las Velas restaurant, according to Fire Department Superintendent Rainieris Brito González.
Firefighters are on the scene, but efforts to control the blaze have been difficult because the fire engine cannot reach the boat in the water. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the incident follows a history of around six previous boat fires in the bay, according to El Nuevo Diario.
