William Swaney named new U.S. Consul General in the Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo announced the arrival of William Swaney as the new Consul General, responsible for overseeing consular operations that assist U.S. citizens in the Dominican Republic and provide visa services for Dominicans traveling to the United States.
Swaney, a career diplomat with more than 20 years of Foreign Service experience, previously served in the Dominican Republic in 1997 and again in 2018. His background includes assignments in Mexico, France, Afghanistan, Cameroon, the Netherlands, and Washington, D.C. Fluent in Spanish, he holds degrees from the University of Vermont, George Washington University, and Bates College.
Expressing his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, Swaney said he looks forward to working with Dominicans to promote mutual understanding, security, prosperity, and democratic values. The embassy highlighted that his appointment reaffirms the U.S. commitment to transparent, efficient, and respectful consular services while deepening cooperation with the Dominican Republic.
