Ministry of Labor suspends 15 construction projects in Santo Domingo over safety violations

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Labor reported that special inspections of construction sites in the National District led to the suspension of 15 projects due to health and safety hazards threatening workers. During the operations, inspectors issued 380 reports, including 304 warnings and 76 citations for violations such as missing safety committees, inadequate signage, lack of personal protective equipment, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.

Additional Labor Code violations included failure to maintain proper staff rosters, underpayment of wages, non-payment of overtime and vacation, and incomplete visitor logs. The inspections covered 41 companies, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring safe working conditions and protecting workers’ rights.

The Ministry highlighted Regulation 522-06, which empowers inspectors to suspend activities in the event of imminent danger, and reaffirmed its role as the authority overseeing labor conditions across the country.

This is good news. It speaks that government is trying to fulfill its obligation to protect the public.

Now… if it could do same with traffic enforcement. Not, the documentation or parking routines but enforcing moving vehicle violations endangering the public. Get the crazy drivers off the roads.
