Duartiano Institute warns immigration agreements must respect the Constitution

Santo Domingo.- Dr. Wilson Gómez Ramírez, president of the Duartiano Institute, emphasized that agreements from the “Dialogue on the Haitian Crisis and its Implications for the Dominican Republic” must respect the Constitution and national laws, particularly regarding immigration. He warned against provisions granting temporary work permits or identity documents to undocumented immigrants, stressing that sovereignty and legal order cannot be compromised.

Gómez Ramírez supported the creation of a National Observatory of Labor Migration proposed by the Economic and Social Council (CES), noting that membership should include institutions with a patriotic mission, not just state agencies. He also called on President Luis Abinader to tackle corruption at the border and defend the country diplomatically against claims of racism or xenophobia.

The Duartiano leader further highlighted the constitutional importance of border security and development, urged stricter legislation on property acquisition in border areas, and stressed preserving the Colonial City’s heritage. He also called for firm judicial action against undocumented trafficking and a halt to returning seized vehicles and property used as criminal evidence.
