Leonel Fernández accuses PRM government of losing control over public safety

San Cristóbal.- Former President Leonel Fernández, leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, strongly criticized the ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) government on Sunday, accusing it of losing control over public safety. Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony for new FP members at the Nigua Gremio Club, Fernández claimed that criminal activity has spread across the country, leaving citizens “hostages” in fear of being robbed or attacked. He argued that the administration has failed to uphold its promise to ensure security, attributing the rise in violence to poor planning and the absence of consistent public policies.

Fernández also denounced deficiencies in essential public services, particularly the lack of access to drinking water in various communities. “We are lacking drinking water,” he said, urging the government to respond to long-standing demands for new aqueducts.

Highlighting the growing shift of political support toward FP, Fernández said the influx of new members reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the current government. “People are realizing that this government hasn’t met the country’s challenges,” he declared. Following the event, Fernández participated in the Expo Constitución 2025 Multisector Fair organized by the San Cristóbal Chamber of Commerce and Production.
