Trump pledges aid as Hurricane Melissa devastates Jamaica and neighboring countries
South Korea.- US President Donald Trump described Hurricane Melissa as unprecedented, saying he had “never” seen winds as strong, reaching 195 mph (314 km/h). Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, Trump noted that Category 5 hurricanes rarely occur and assured that the United States is ready to provide humanitarian aid to Jamaica.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared the country a “disaster zone” after Melissa made landfall in Westmoreland as a Category 3 storm, hours after peaking at Category 5. According to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), over 530,000 households (77% of customers) remain without electricity. The hardest-hit areas include Clarendon, Manchester, Saint Elizabeth, and Westmoreland, where many communities are isolated and roads are blocked.
The storm has caused at least nine deaths across the Caribbean: three in Jamaica, three in Haiti, two in Panama, and one in the Dominican Republic, as the region contends with widespread destruction from Melissa’s winds and heavy rains.

The Jamaicans will need plenty of help. It is nice Trump offered humanitarian assistance to them. Yet, he refuses food assistance to the food stamp population of the US whose benefits run out on Saturday.
Tell the whole story Paul. It is the CONGRESS that allocates and appropriates funding not the President. Congress is holding up appropriations over 1.4trillion for illegal aliens in the country.
Yes! However, Trump’s use of “Executive Order” can release money to supplement SNAP. People who are hungry in any nation cannot wait out the bureaucratic bs to put food in their mouths.
