JCE presents new ID Card design featuring national symbols and tribute to Juan Pablo Duarte

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE), led by its president Román Jáquez Liranzo, presented to the Duartian Institute and the Permanent Commission of Patriotic Ephemerides (CPEP) the official designs of the new Dominican Identity and Electoral Card. The designs prominently feature the national coat of arms and an image of the founding father, Juan Pablo Duarte, as part of efforts to modernize the document while reinforcing national identity.

The presentation aimed to obtain formal approval from both institutions, which safeguard the correct use of national symbols. Jáquez Liranzo emphasized that the new card will integrate patriotic, cultural, and environmental elements to reflect Dominican heritage. Key features include the national coat of arms, Duarte’s portrait, and the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration. The cardholder’s image will also appear symbolically over Duarte’s chest, representing the continuity of the Dominican homeland through its citizens.

Beyond historical icons, the design highlights national culture and biodiversity by incorporating the güira and tambora—symbols of Dominican music—and the palmchat, the national bird. The project transforms the ID card into a tribute to Dominican history, culture, and nature. The Duartian Institute and CPEP approved the final designs, commending the JCE for promoting national pride and preserving the legacy of Juan Pablo Duarte through this initiative.

It would be thoughtful if images of the new designs were published.
