I thought homosexual unions were illegal in the Dominican Republic. Also, how did a US Citizen get authorization to perform ceremonies. I’m an ordained minister and cannot do it legally there. Of course, I’m a Christian Minister and could not perform a homosexual wedding anyway as it violates the tenants of our religion.

This woke clown making up things…the Dominican government has indicated that this was illegal…
If the ceremony was performed by a United Church minister, or Methodist, or Anglican or Lutheran, or if it was done in a diplomatic location of the US, Canada or European Union or his marriage might be recognized by their courts, especially for immigration purpose. Colombia, Brasil, México and many other Latin American countries have legalized gay marriage and introduced a protection law for such couples. As it is in all civilized developed countries.
