President Abinader inaugurates rehabilitated Sabana Toro–La Rosa Highway
San Cristóbal.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated the rehabilitated Sabana Toro–La Rosa highway section on Thursday, a long-awaited project that improves mobility and boosts economic integration in one of the most productive areas of the province.
The Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID) executed the work through its social responsibility program, investing RD$200.9 million. The Grupo Gil Calvo SRL company developed the project, which spans five kilometers and includes new sidewalks, curbs, asphalt paving, drainage systems, road signage, and the relocation of electrical poles.
EGEHID’s general manager, Rafael Salazar, described the project as “a historical debt” owed to the communities of Sabana Toro, La Rosa, Villegas, Telín, and El Pueblecito, which had long suffered from limited access to markets, schools, and essential services. The new road will facilitate direct connections between Cambita, Los Cacaos, and Villa Altagracia, reducing travel times and transport costs by bypassing the center of San Cristóbal.
Representing the residents, Asunción Brito expressed gratitude, stating that the new road “brings real development and new opportunities for the families who live and work here.”
