Rainfall will increase this Sunday due to the effects of a trough across much of the country

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that, due to the arrival of a new trough, rainfall will increase around midday in various towns across the country.

The agency indicates that rain will fall in Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, San Cristóbal, Duarte, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, Peravia, Azua, Barahona, San Juan, Elías Piña, among other nearby provinces.

It also reports that the downpours will be locally moderate to occasionally heavy with thunderstorms and gusty winds.

These rains will also extend into the night, with rainfall predominantly affecting the Caribbean coast.

“Tomorrow, Monday, a holiday for Constitution Day, we will have rains of varying intensity during the early morning with thunderstorms and wind gusts, especially towards the Caribbean coast, which will continue in the morning, although with less frequency and intensity. In the afternoon, these rains will gradually decrease as the trough moves away from our territory. However, some showers will occur in areas of Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Azua, La Vega, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, and other neighboring provinces of the Central Mountain Range, the southwest, northwest, and the border area. Later, the country will experience scattered to clear skies.

Local forecasts

In the Greater Santo Domingo area, there will be scattered clouds and scattered showers in the afternoon. The minimum temperature will be between 21°C and 23°C, and the maximum between 30°C and 32°C.
