Santo Domingo to host CyberWeek@LAC4 2025
Santo Domingo.- The European Union, the LAC4 Cyber Competence Center, and Dominican platform FACTOR will host CyberWeek@LAC4 2025 from November 17–20 in Santo Domingo, a regional forum focused on addressing the sharp rise in cyberattacks across Latin America. The event will gather cybersecurity experts, government officials, researchers, and business leaders from Europe and the region to strengthen digital resilience and international cooperation.
Organizers warn that Latin America currently leads the world in cyberattack growth, reporting a 108% year-over-year increase, particularly affecting government institutions, education, telecommunications, and healthcare. The forum is supported by EU CyberNet, EL PACCTO 2.0, the EU–LAC Digital Alliance, and several private-sector sponsors.
Dominican mathematician and FACTOR founder Juan Luis Vargas Molina, a featured speaker and former NSA contributor, emphasized that the country’s digital trust infrastructure must be treated as critical national infrastructure, since a single compromised cryptographic key can destabilize both public and private systems. He highlighted the need for strict traceability and verification under Law 126-02 and noted that FACTOR provides tools to audit cryptographic security.
