Dominican Republic shatters record: attracts 9.2 million visitors through October

The Dominican Republic received 9,283,767 visitors in the January-October period, generating 815,000 jobs and adding more than 15 billion dollars to the country’s economy.

In announcing the results of tourism performance in the first ten months of 2025, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, highlighted the impact of tourism growth on the economy and its people.

“What we are presenting is more than statistics; it’s not just numbers, it’s employment and better living conditions for Dominicans,” he said.

The official stated that the 9.2 million visitors also reflect US$15.562 billion in added value, US$5.475 billion in net external income, and RD$19.984 billion in taxes.

“As you can see, tourism directly impacts people, across its entire value chain,” Collado stated.

He reported that in the period January-October, the country received 7,168,505 tourists by air, which represents an increase of 34% compared to 2019, 9% compared to 2023, and 3% above last year.

During that same period, 2,115,262 cruise passengers arrived by sea, representing an increase of 153% compared to 2019 and 25% compared to 2023.

“And those two visitor figures give us the grand total: 9,283,767, thus breaking our own record,” he noted.

The official reported that in October alone, the country received a total of 691,073 visitors, representing a 58% increase compared to the same month in 2019 and a 12% increase compared to 2023.

He detailed that 593,022 tourists and another 98,051 cruise ship passengers arrived in the country by air alone.

The countries of origin that contributed the most visitors in October were the United States with 38%, Canada with 10%, Argentina with 9%, Colombia with 6%, while Puerto Rico, Peru, and the United Kingdom each contributed 4%.
