Port-au-Prince.- Haitian gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, known as “Barbecue” and spokesperson for the Viv Ansanm armed coalition, urged citizens to remain indoors starting Monday so gangs can confront law enforcement without civilians being caught in the crossfire. Through a message shared on social media, Cherizier asked transport unions, drivers, and families to stay home, claiming the warning was meant to prevent casualties as gangs prepare to face the police.
His announcement follows a major joint operation by the Haitian National Police, the Armed Forces, and the Gang Repression Force against the 400 Mawozo gang, which has long controlled areas north of Port-au-Prince. Authorities reported multiple gang members killed or injured and seized weapons, including a Barrett rifle and heavy machinery used to damage public infrastructure. Cherizier also warned parents to keep children inside, saying gangs would not be responsible for those who ignore the alert.

Very sad to hear of so much violence that threaten civilian lives. Praying for all involved….
And so Civil War is declared!
