Uber arrives in Dominican capital, but some aren’t cheering
Santo Domingo.- The companyUber starts operations in Santo Domingo on Monday, when the private transport optionwill likely face opposition from some potential competitors, including thepowerful taxi association, CONATRA.
This transport company startswith a 10 peso-per-kilometer and 5-peso-per minute base rate and a minimum fee of70 pesos, for which crossing the capital north-south will cost from 138 to 171pesos.
"Uber platformrepresents options for entrepreneurship, to provide drivers with the ability tostart with a car, become their own boss, while contributing to a positivechange in Santo Domingo´s mobility," said Uber Communication director for Mexico,Central America and the Caribbean, Luis Uriarte.
“Starting Monday SantoDomingo´s economic dynamism and its many options to enjoy its cuisine, cultureand entertainment are more accessible with uberX´s arrival."
