Tourism boost as two cruise ships arrive at Cabo Rojo Port

Pedernales.- The Dominican Republic has reached a new milestone in cruise tourism with the simultaneous arrival of two cruise ships at the Port of Cabo Rojo in Pedernales, a first in the country and a key moment in the development of the deep south as a new tourism hub. This achievement reflects President Luis Abinader’s commitment to transforming Pedernales and the Enriquillo region into a strategic center for tourism, economic growth, and social development, integrating the area into the global cruise industry for the first time in a sustained way.

The Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) played a crucial role by strengthening and adapting Cabo Rojo’s port infrastructure to meet top international standards in operations, technology, and safety. Apordom’s executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that this milestone goes beyond the arrival of ships—it marks Pedernales’ official entry onto the world cruise tourism map. He credited the coordinated efforts of the Abinader administration and emphasized the positive economic impact on local commerce, transportation, tourism services, gastronomy, and job creation.
