COE raises weather alerts in multiple provinces

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised alert levels Friday for multiple provinces due to the effects of a trough generating unstable weather conditions across the country.

Under yellow alert are Santo Domingo, the National District, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Samaná, El Seibo, La Altagracia, La Romana, and San Pedro de Macorís. Meanwhile, Santiago, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, and Monseñor Nouel remain under green alert.

Authorities reported that the system is moving slowly northwest near the southern Bahamas, maintaining high humidity and instability. Periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind gusts are expected, particularly during early morning hours.

The COE urged residents to avoid crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels, and to stay away from recreational water areas in affected provinces. It also called on Atlantic coast operators to take precautions due to reduced visibility, lightning, strong winds, and rough sea conditions.
