Brazil issues warrant for top advisor of Dominican leader: Report

Santo Domingo.- Brazilianjudicial authorities have issued an arrest warrant against publisher JoaoSantana, as part of that country’s Petrobras corruption scandal, laprensagrafica.comreports.

Santana, who reportedly is Dominicanpresident Danilo Medina’s main strategist for the reelection campaign, is theleading marketing consultant for Brazil’s Workers Party (PT) and was apolitical campaign strategist for Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff.

He also advised former Brazilianpresident Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the late president of Venezuela, HugoChavez; president Nicolas Maduro and El Salvador president Mauricio Funes.

The arrest warrant includes his wifeand partner Monica Santana.

“However neither of them have beencaptured, because they are in Dominican Republic working in the reelectioncampaign of President Danilo Medina,” the outlet reports

In May 2015 it emerged thatSantana was being investigated for alleged money laundering. At that time itwas claimed that (US)$16 million would have earned Brazil with which benefited thePT for Rousseff’s campaign.

As of Monday morning DominicanRepublic’s Justice Ministry Prisons Dept. said Santana doesn’t figure on thelist of people being held.
