US Embassy to host Green Fest bash to mark Earth Day

Santo Domingo. – The United States Embassy will host the seventh annual “Green Fest” on Sunday April 23 at the National Botanical Garden, to mark International Earth Day.

The US Embassy sponsors the Green Fest as to raise social awareness on the importance of preserving the environment and carry out actions that reduce our impact on the planet.

The activity is free of charge and will be held from 11am to 5pm, with this year’s theme “United For a Clean City,” focused on initiatives for the local environmental such as recycling and reduced waste.

US Embassy chief of staff Patrick Dunn will deliver the keynote speech, with attendance by Botanical Garden director Ricardo Garcia and Environment Ministry officials.

Sponsors: Propa-Gas Foundation, Fundación Popular, Fundación Reservas, El Centro para el Desarrollo Agropecuario y Forestal (CEDAF), Santo Domingo City Council, Nature Conservancy and Coca-Cola.

Performances: American pop group Karikatura, Grupo Faena and the US Embassy’s Wild Cards.

The local company Green Love will be collecting recyclable materials including paper, plastic, cardboard, tetrapak, and the visitors can swap their trash for “Eco-credits” to shop at the exhibitors during the fair.

The event is organized by a team of volunteers from the United States Embassy, ​​with the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Botanical Garden and the Propa-Gas Foundation.
