Ottawa US$218.0M would turn trash dump into landfill

Santo Domingo.- The Canadian government is interested in investing US$218 million in the Duquesa trash dump and turn it into a landfill, Santo Domingo Norte mayor René Polanco revealed Monday.

He said in addition to Canada, he is in contact with several companies interested in Duquesa and which he affirms can execute the project.

He said the Canadian Government’s proposal is through a turnkey investment in the landfill, to be managed by the city of Santo Domingo Norte during15 years after the work concludes.

Deadline expired

The deadline to negotiate an agreement among the Greater Santo Domingo city councils and Duquesa contractor Lajun Corp. expired Monday, for which the mayors await a meeting with the Environment Ministry.
