Dominicans the big winners in NY State elections

NEW YORK.- Dominican candidates in New York Senate and Assembly elections swept their Republican opponents with a wide vote margins, including Adriano Espaillat, reelected in District 31 with 58,807 votes, or 91.25% against 8.75% for GOP rival Martin Chicon’s 5,639.

Gabriela Rosa becomes first Dominican woman elected to the state assembly in Albany, a seat held for decades by Espaillat and Guillermo Linares during nearly 15 years of combined terms.

With 39,320 votes or 94.95%, Rosa defeated compatriot and activist Ronnie Cabrera, a former aide of Councilman Miguel Martinez.

Nelson Castro took State Assembly District 86 in The Bronx with 96.36% or 12,983 votes against opponents Ana Sanchez and Vhidwhatie Diamond.

In Brooklyn, the also Dominican Rafael Espinal won in District 54 with 10,877,211 voters or 96.91%, to defeat rival Khorsed Chowdhoury.
