Over 1,350 Police officers under investigation this year

Santo Domingo.- National Police data for the January-June 2016 period reveal that 1,356 officers are under investigation for alleged irregularities in their duties.

With ranks ranging from private to colonel, members of the National Police figure in indictments for police brutality, corruption, assaults, domestic violence, death threats, irregular service and weapons trafficking.

The civic movement Citizen Participation (PC) provided the figures on Tuesday, as part of its "Irregular Actions of the National Police in the Exercise of their Functions," a new investigation by the watchdog Citizen Observatory to the Police.

According to data provided by the National Police Internal Affairs to the PC Observatory, 1,882 disciplinary measures were meted out against officers in 2015.
