Mandatory evacuations on fears of flooding from major dam

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency OperationsCenter (COE) on Wed. announced mandatory evacuation for residents downstream ofTavera dam, on fears of widespread flooding from the recent downpours.

The order to evacuate came during a pressconference after president Danilo Medina yesterday met with the heads of governmentrelief agencies.

COE director Juan Manuel Mendez said thefamilies to be transferred belong to all the towns along Yaque del Norte riverincluding Santiago, Monte Cristi and Valverde provinces.

After Medina’s meeting with the officials, thePresidency tweeted that Tavera dam, "is at its highest levels."
