Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is LatinAmerica and Caribbean country with the third highest number of femicides (3.6per 100,000 women), surpassed by only by Honduras and El Salvador, saidNational Statistics Office (ONE) director Alexandra Izquierdo on Thursday.

"It is of extreme concern how themurders of men to women continue to be perpetuated, which represented 8.5% ofall cases in 2015," the official said citing data from the agency’s StatisticalPanorama.

In cases where men murder women, Izquierdo saidmore than half of the perpetrators (50.6%) were persons belonging to the victim’sintimate circle.
