Authorities seized 9.1M cigarettes headed to a free zone

Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities on Wed. seized a shipment of 9.1 million cigarettes of the Capital brand, hidden in a container at Haina Oriental Port in the outskirts of the city.

The Customs Agency said the cigarettes arrived in the country under the consignment of cotton fabrics imported by the free zone company D & G Central Textiles Dominicana.

The customs agency GREAL SRL submitted the manifest related to container LU7960377, which purportedly brought cotton fabrics for the free zone company D & G Central Textiles Dominicana, C for A.

“The operation was carried out by Customs Intelligence officers accompanied by a representative of the Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of Military Security and collaboration of other investigative agencies,” Customs said in a statement.
