Prosecution requests 20 years in prison in journalist’s murder

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry on Tues. requested 20 years in prison against Matías Avelino Castro, the alleged drug trafficker charged with ordering the Aug., 2011 murder of the journalist José Silvestre, near La Romana (east).

The case had taken an ominous turn when the journalist’s relatives desisted from continuing the prosecution.

The defendant is accused of violating the Criminal Code and the Money Laundering Law and forgery

In addition, the Public Ministry requested damages or 250 minimum wages (RD$250,000).

The entire sentence against the accused is scheduled to be read today.
