Environment chief to step down, eyes the Palace in 2020

Santo Domingo.- Environment minister Francisco Domínguez will resign from his duties Thurs. to seek the ruling party’s (PLD) presidential candidacy ahead of the 2020 election.

Dominguez, a senior member of the PLD, sought the candidacy for the 2012 election, and now competes with former president Leonel Fernandez and Interior and Police minister, Carlos Amarante.

Except for Fernandez the PLD presidency hopefuls met with president Danilo Medina at the National Palace in March, but no details were provided.

Present in the gathering were the ministers of Education, Andrés Navarro; of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo; of Tourism, Francisco Javier García; Senate president Reinaldo Pared; and former Economy minister Temístocles Montás.

Dominguez is to announce his decision at a 4pm press conference.
