Breaking News: 5.6 magnitude earthquake tremors felt in Dominican Republic

This morning, the Dominican Republic was jolted by an earthquake of magnitude 5.6. Some claim the magnitude was 5.3. A strong earthquake with an epicenter in the marine zone south of Bani, on one of the branches of the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault that crosses south of Santo Domingo. It was felt from Barahona to Santo Domingo and Santiago.

The earthquake struck at 7:11 a.m., and authorities say it has affected the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, Haiti, and Puerto Rico, in addition to the Dominican Republic. The tremor was felt strongly in various parts of the Dominican Republic, causing widespread panic. Messages expressing emotions quickly flooded social media. Some businesses in buildings ordered the evacuation of employees who had already begun their workday.
