Santo Domingo.- The Instituto Superior de Formación Docente Salomé Ureña (ISFODOSU) presented Dr. Manuel Matos Moquete’s new book, El crisol y la criba. Relatos de aprendizaje, at the 25th Santo Domingo International Book Fair.
Held at the Jeannette Miller pavilion in the National Library, the event featured ISFODOSU Rector Dr. Nurys del Carmen González, who described the book as a collection of learning experiences, where the author narrates his journey as a student at various levels of formal education.
“In this book, Matos Moquete masterfully conveys the learning experiences accumulated throughout his life, from his early grades at Apolinar Perdomo School in Tamayo, through the Eugenio María de Hostos Night School, to his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at a university in Paris,” emphasized Dr. González.
She also invited other teachers to share their teaching and/or learning experiences, offering the institution’s Publications Department as a resource for these endeavors.
During the presentation, the author, Dr. Matos Moquete, highlighted that teaching and learning involve the exchange and accumulation of knowledge and experiences. “In these pages, I share the formative value of education and the positive impact of my educational process on my life, with the aim of inspiring readers to relive and recount their own educational experiences,” stated the author.
The 2019 National Literature Prize winner affirmed that achieving desirable learning outcomes in education requires the will, effort, and dedication of teachers at every educational level.
The book was presented by writers and educators Manuel Núñez, Emilia Pereyra and Carlos Cabrera, who offered their perspectives on an inspiring narrative that they valued both in literary, linguistic and human terms. They emphasized Matos Moquete’s life experiences, his extensive and distinguished literary work, as well as his life as a revolutionary that led him to exile in Paris in 1975, where he began a new chapter.
The event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Franklyn García Fermín, as well as ISFODOSU authorities, writers, academics and Dominican intellectuals.
The book, along with its interactive digital version, will be available to the public and the world through the Publications portal on the ISFODOSU website.
