Director of La Victoria Prison removed from position after recent incidents

Santo Domingo.- On Sunday, Colonel María Isabel Gil, the head of La Victoria National Penitentiary, was dismissed following a devastating fire that claimed the lives of 13 inmates, left several others injured, and prompted the transfer of over a thousand prisoners.

Colonel Gil had assumed her role at the prison less than a month ago, becoming the first woman to hold such a position.

Prior to her assignment at La Victoria, Colonel Gil served as the head of the Constanza command at the Dirección General de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (DIGESETTT).

As of now, no announcement has been made regarding Colonel Gil’s replacement at La Victoria prison.

It is worth noting that another incident occurred on Saturday night, attributed to issues with the electrical installations and deemed a direct consequence of the earlier fire.
