Enhanced security measures implemented for Holy Week 2024

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of the National Police has issued orders for an escalation in preventive patrolling and intelligence operations nationwide, particularly focusing on beaches, rivers, resorts, and residential as well as commercial areas, as part of “Operation Consciousness for Life” for Holy Week 2024.

These intensified law enforcement efforts will commence simultaneously across the country on Tuesday, March 26, and will persist until Sunday, March 31, coinciding with the return of vacationers to their respective homes.

The announcement was made through a press release on Palm Sunday, marking the commencement of Holy Week 2024. The objective is to inform citizens that law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and other state relief and security agencies, will provide support and protection nationwide to individuals traveling to various parts of the country.

“Our aim is to offer national-level support and security to citizens traveling to different resorts across the country during the Easter holiday, with the goal of preventing criminal activities and traffic accidents that endanger the safety of both national and foreign residents,” stated the law enforcement institution.

In addition to the preventive services at beaches, rivers, resorts, and mountains, active and ongoing preventive measures will be maintained in residential and commercial areas to safeguard the properties of those enjoying the holiday.

Coverage of preventive operations will span the entire national territory, overseen by various central, regional, specialized, and area directorates.

These preventive services, under the directives of Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, General Director of the National Police, will be subject to continuous supervision. The General Inspectorate of the police force will be responsible for ensuring faithful compliance with the guidelines set forth by Major General Guzmán Peralta.

As part of the general provisions, the retention of firearms carried by individuals in public places, particularly beaches, resorts, bars, grocery stores, nightclubs, and similar venues, will be enforced.

Furthermore, designated hours for accessing beaches, rivers, and resorts will be from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, as established by regulatory authorities.

The Central Director of Prevention will serve as the general coordinator for “Operation Consciousness for Life,” following the directives outlined in this Holy Week 2024 directive.
